What is Chiropractic?
A natural, non-invasive, drug free approach to health care
More and more people are choosing chiropractic care for relief of their back pain, neck pain, headaches and other health issues because chiropractic is about natural, drug-free pain relief.
Changing blood chemistry with pharmaceutical drugs to change your body's function may be expedient and, in certain situations even lifesaving, but it is not a healthy, long-term solution and actually reveals a profound mistrust of the wisdom of the body.
Chiropractic care is also more than just making the pain go away. It's about learning, understanding and taking care of your body to improve your quality of life. Chiropractic health care is a form of natural health care that focuses on eliminating pain, caring for people's health and restoring their function without the use of drugs or surgery.
Doctors of Chiropractic, more commonly known as chiropractors, are primary health care providers licensed in all 50 states, and are recognized by governmental health care programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, Workers' Compensation programs and more. The Department of Defense has recently included chiropractic care for service men and women.
Every year, more than 30 million Americans see chiropractors as part of the regular health care programs. With over 84,000 licensed chiropractors nationwide and more than 10,000 students currently enrolled in chiropractic school, it is the fastest growing health care profession.
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is an inately self-regulating, self-healing organism, and is controlled by your brain, spinal cord and nerves of your body. When the vertebrae, which protect your spinal cord and spinal nerves, get misaligned or lose their normal motion, nerves can be irritated or pinched and, as a result of that, malfunction of the muscles, tissues and organs throughout your body can occur. Think of a frayed or loose wire connected to a lamp in your house. The lamp can't possibly work right until the wire is fixed!
Some of the benefits of chiropractic care are:
-corrects causes of back pain and neck pain, not just symptoms
-improves immunity, overall body function and overall health
-relief from pain and symptoms
-quicker recovery and back to work faster
-can prevent surgery in some cases
-safe and relatively painless
-restores normal nerve supply
-helps normalize blood flow
-slows spinal degeneration and improves disk health
-improves posture
-restores mobility
-relieves stress, tension and increases energy
-slows the aging process
-improves athletic performance
-allows better sleep
Chiropractors treat people with obvious nerve related problems such as headaches, joint pain, neck pain, low back pain and sciatica. Chiropractors also treat patients with osteoarthritis, spinal disc conditions, migraine headaches, sports injuries, disc herniations, carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, sprains, and strains. However, the scope of conditions that chiropractors manage or provide care for is not limited to the common pains and problems listed above. Since many health problems are often nerve related, chiropractors also have the training to treat a variety of conditions such as allergies, asthma, digestive disorders, and many other health problems.
